New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Men' s Soccer Team (1-1) got their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Manhattan to defeat Berkeley College (0-1) 4-2.
Midfielder
Fabian Olguin (Humanities / New York, NY) notched Brooklyn's first goal of the season in the first half, giving BC a 1-0 lead, but a goal by Berkeley's Berk Guarin tied the game shorty after.
Freshman forward
Mack Diller (Brooklyn Technical / Brooklyn, NY) then scored on a superb strike to give Brooklyn a 2-1 lead going into the half.
Brooklyn kept the momentum coming out of the break as freshman Drilon Sahitoj (Brooklyn Studio / Brooklyn, NY) notched the team's 3rd goal of the game in the 65th minute. Once again, Berkeley struck quickly, answering with a goal from Jermaine Dacres scored just 5 minutes later.
Diller, who was playing in his first collegiate game, was able to seal the win in the game's closing minutes as he made a brilliant run, dribbling through 3 defenders before slotting the ball into the left net.
Freshman keeper
Anthony Sideris (St. Demetrios / Astoria, NY) showed confidence in the team's first win, making 8 saves in goal.
"We showed a great deal of composure, keeping our focus on a very hot Saturday afternoon," said first-year head coach
Rawle Hensford, who earned his first collegiate victory. " I was particularly pleased with
Mack Diller's performance," continued Hensford. "In addition to his two goals, he worked very hard on the defensive end and also created chances for others."
Brooklyn will look to stay in the win column on Thursday as the travel to play Purchase College on Thursday afternoon at 4 pm.
