Women's Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller To Hunter, 69-65

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (9-6, 5-1 CUNYAC) lost a hearbreaker to Hunter College (8-5,, 3-2 CUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon, 69-65 in overtime at the West Quad Gymnasium.

After the Bulldogs made an amazing run from down 6 at halftime, to take a 5 point lead in the game's closing minutes, Hunter answered with a basket to cut the lead to three.  The teams then traded baskets, however on the following BC possession, an Andrea Buckham (Flushing / Jamaica, NY) steal led to a basket and foul, which tied the game.  In the closing moments of the game both teams were unable to convert, sending the game into overtime with the score tied at 57 a piece.

BC jumped out to an early lead in the extra period, as Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) converted on a lay-up, however down the stretch, a basket and free throw by Juanita Whyms (Stella Maris / Far Rockaway, NY) gave Hunter a 3 point advantage that they would not relinquish.

Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY)  had team-highs of 19 points, 9 boards and 3 steals, while Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) scored 14 points, including 3 big 3-pointers during the team's comeback run, and also blocked 3 shots.

O'Callahan had a big game as well, scoring 10 points, while grabbing 8 boards and blocking 3 shots.

Megan McKenna (Midwood / Rockaway Beach, NY) led Hunter with 25 points, while Whyms chipped in with 17.

Up next for Brooklyn will be another CUNYAC match-up as the team will host CCNY on Wednesday, January 20th at 5:30 pm.  The game will be the opening half of a basketball doubleheader as the men will battle CCNY in the nightcap.
