Dramatic Ending Propels BC Women To OT Win Over Lehman, 77-71

Box Score

Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team (11-8, 6-3 CUNYAC) went up to the Bronx on Saturday afternoon and came from behind to get their second straight overtime victory, knocking off Lehman (8-12, 6-3 CUNYAC) 77-71.

Priscilla Ramirez (FDR / Brooklyn, NY) made the game-tying shot for the second time this week as she banked in a short-jumper with 2.8 seconds remaining, to tie the game at 61 and force overtime.

With 15 seconds remaining, Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) scored to bring the Bulldogs within two points.  Ariel Smith (Wallkill / Newburgh, NY) then fouled Lehman's Kelsey Ash (Santana / Santee, CA), who missed the front end of a one and one.

BC pushed the ball into the front court and called a time out.  Coming out of the time out the ball was inbounded to Ramirez, but Lehman, with two fouls to give, wisely fouled to bring the game clock to just over eight seconds. Lehman called a time out to set their defense.

Ramirez inbounded the ball on a set play to Lyons under the basket and, while Lyons missed the initial shot, Ramirez came crashing in for the rebound and banked in the game-equalizer with 2.8 remaining. Lehman called another time out but could only get up a halfcourt shot by Melissa St. Louis (Sheepshead Bay / Brooklyn, NY) that sailed far left of the rim.

Brooklyn began the overtime just as they left off Tuesday's, as they scored the first 10 points of the period, leading 73-63 with 1:05 left to play. However, Lehman would not go down without a fight as they managed to muster an 8-0 run and cut the lead to two.

Ramirez was not finished making an impact on this game as she sealed the victory by making a big pull-up jumper with eight seconds to go. After a missed three by St. Louis, Ramirez was fouled, and stepped to the line to make both free throws.

Ramirez just missed the triple-double as she compiled a stat line of 22 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.

Lyons had another double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 boards, while Smith chipped in with 10 points, five assists and four steals.

Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) had a huge game offensively for BC, scoring 18 points on eight for 13 from the field.

Junior guard Ashley Allen (William C. Bryant / Sunnyside, NY) was big off the Brooklyn bench, dropping in three long-range shots, to finish with nine points.

Lehman had three starters in double-figures in what was a balanced scroring attack.

Brooklyn will return home on Monday as they host non-conference foe Albertus Magnus, who have won six of their last seven games.
