Men’s Soccer Falls to CCNY in Regular Season Home Finale, 2-1

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team dropped its home 2010 regular season finale to CUNY Athletic Conference rival the Beavers of the City College of New York by the score of 2-1, this afternoon at Kingsborough Community College Field. With the loss, the Bulldogs end the season with a 1-7-1 conference record, 2-11-2 overall; while the Beavers improve to 5-9-1 overall and end the year at 4-4-1 in league play.

CCNY got on the board first, as Jamal Bagigah found the back of the net with assists coming from Muhammad Zakari and Samuel Nkama, to put the visitors up early in the 18th minute.

The Bulldogs would answer back quickly, just five minutes later in the 23rd minute, when sophomore Drilon Sahitaj (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Studio) found an open senior Ruslan Alabashev (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy), who made the most of his Senior Day by striking home the equalizer into the top right corner of the goal.

The score would remain tied 1-1 until the 57th minute, when CCNY's O'Neil Kerille Bruno took advantage of a deflection off of a Brooklyn defender to beat the keeper one-on-one for the eventual game-winning goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) had five saves on the day for the Bulldogs, while his counterpart Tayfun Kucuk recorded six stops.

Brooklyn will conclude its 2010 regular season on Wednesday, October 20th, when the Bulldogs will travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on non-conference foe New Jersey City University. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm. You can follow the game through live stats at http://www.sidearmstats.com/njcu/msoc/index.htm
