Box Score
Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team (11-8, 5-3 CUNYAC) came back from a two set to one deficit to win the set four and force a deciding fifth set, but Lehman College (14-11, 5-3 CUNYAC) remained focus and took the fifth set 15-8.
The win was huge for Lehman in what may have been a CUNYAC Quarterfinal preview, as the Lightning took a step closer to clinching a home playoff game and a top four seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
"We look forward to meeting them on November 2nd," said BC
Head Coach Joanne Riggs, who spoke after the match about the possibility of facing Lehman in a possible CUNYAC Championship Quarterfinal matchup. "Both teams were equally matched tonight," Riggs commented of the even play.
That even play was evident in the team stats as the Bulldogs actually earned the advantage in team kills notching 45, while the Lightning racked up 43.
Leading the way for Brooklyn was junior outside hitter
Colette Dragon (Spring Valley / Spring Valley, NY), who put away 13 kills, while freshman
Maritza Morencey (Nouveau College Bird / Port-au-Prince, Haiti) chipped in with 12 kills of her own. Dragon added 10 digs, while Morency notched 16.
Brooklyn was paced by setter
Amanda Fiore (Susan E. Wagner / Staten Island, NY) in the assist department, as the freshman dished out 34, to go along with 5 kills, 6 aces and 11 digs. Senior
Noelle Benson (Ontario / Ontario, CA) led the team with 24 digs.
Gerri-Ann Martin (John F. Kennedy / Bronx, NY) led the Lightning with 15 kills and 24 digs.
"This was an intense match," said Coach Riggs. "I thought Colette had a great individual effort getting her first double-double of the season."
Brooklyn will be on the road tomorrow night as they travel to Purchase, New York to take on the Valliants of Manhattanville College in a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 pm. You can follow the match online through
