Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team dropped a CUNY Athletic Conference match to the Lightning of Lehman College this afternoon by a score of 4-2 at Kingsborough Community College Field. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 2-6-2 overall on the season, 1-3-1 in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning move to 4-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.
The first half featured a tight physical matchup with both teams jockeying for an advantage. In the end, it would be Lehman who would go into the break with the upper hand, when freshman Gilherme Silva took a rebound off the keeper to put the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute.
The Lightning lead would not last long however, as the Bulldogs came out of the break determine to get the equalizer. In the 48th minute, junior
Jonathan Whitehead (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) headed in the game-tying goal with an assist from classmate
Igor Kozlov (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Elite). Lehman would bounce back minutes later, as Silva notched his second goal of the game knocking home another rebound off the keeper in the 50th minute.
The game would remain 2-1 until the 63rd minute, when the Bulldogs defense turned the ball over on their side of the field, allowing Assami Valian to take advantage and beat the keeper one on one.
Brooklyn would later cut its deficit to 3-2, when Kozlov found the back of the net with an assist from sophomore
Brendan Baker (Rockville Center, NY/Chaminade) in the 77th minute. The Bulldogs valiant comeback effort would fall short however, as Geovanny Arredondo scored the final goal of the game with the help of Alex Linde in the 82nd minute for the 4-2 final.
Freshman keeper
Stamatis Boundouris (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) made eight saves in net for Broooklyn, while his counterpart Marcos Coto-Batres made seven saves on the day.
Brooklyn returns to action this Monday, October 4th, when the Bulldogs will play host to Berkeley College in a non-conference matchup. Game is slated to begin at 4:00 pm at KCC Field.
