Women’s Volleyball Splits Bard Tri-Match

Annandale-On-Hudson, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (7-5) traveled upstate to Annandale-On-Hudson today to participate in the Bard College Tri-Match. The Bulldogs won their first match of the day, downing Sarah Lawrence College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-22), while Brooklyn dropped its second game of the day to host Bard, 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20). 

In their opening victory over Sarah Lawrence, Brooklyn was led by junior captain Caitlin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood), who finished the match with eight kills, one ace, one solo block and two block assists. Freshman Amanda Fiore (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) continued her solid play this season pacing the offense with 28 assists, to go along with three aces and seven digs. Another freshman, Maritza Morency (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Nouveau College Bird) had a strong outing, chipping in with five kills, two aces, one solo block and seven digs. 

McMullen continued to show her veteran leadership in the nightcap against Bard, totaling seven kills, along with four solo blocks and two block assists. Fiore repeated another great performance with 32 assists, seven digs, four aces and two block assists, while Morency had a solid defensive performance with 17 digs, to go with eight kills, one ace and one solo block. Senior Noelle Benson (Ontario, CA/Ontario) chipped in with 13 digs. 

Brooklyn returns to action on Friday, October 8th, when the Bulldogs will travel to New Rochelle, NY to take part in the College of New Rochelle Tri-Match. CUNYAC rival Lehman College will be the third team. Brooklyn will take on host New Rochelle at 5:00 pm, before then playing Lehman at 6:30 pm.
