Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team dropped a thrilling five-set seesaw battle to non-conference foe Manhattanville College tonight at Kennedy Gymnasium in Purchase, NY. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 11-9 overall on the season; while the Valiants improve to 8-14 on the year.
Manhattanville took the opening set 25-21, before Brooklyn took the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-13, respectively, to take a 2-1 advantage. The Valiants showed their resiliency in taking the fourth set, 25-21, forcing the decisive fifth set. Both teams battled back and forth in the final set, but in the end, it would be the host Valiants who would edge the Bulldogs, 15-13, to take the match 3-2.
Freshman setter
Amanda Fiore (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) set the offensive pace for Brooklyn recording a match-high 37 assists, to go along with 15 digs. Classmate
Jillian Escobar (Queens Village, NY/Francis Lewis) posted a match-best 13 kills, while junior captain
Caitlin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) finished the night with 11 kills. Senior
Noelle Benson (Ontario, CA/Ontario) had a solid defensive effort with a team-high 21 digs, as freshman
Maritza Morency (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Nouveau College Bird) chipped in with 14 digs and seven kills.
The Valiants were led by Jocelyn Branca, who finished the match with 11 kills and 10 digs. Susy Camaj had 10 kills, while Damaris Morales chipped in with 13 digs and Maggie Black registered 10 digs. Makana Gomes finished the night with 31 assists, to go along with a match-high 23 digs.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday, October 22nd, when Brooklyn will play host to the Cougars of Clark University in a non-conference match. Game is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start at the West Quad Center Gymnasium.
