The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team (11-10) lost to Clark University (9-10) 16-25, 25- 21, 25-16, 25-20 on Friday evening in the West Quad Center.
The Bulldogs used their home crowd to spur them to an opening set victory, pulling away by a score of 25-16 behind 3 kills from freshman outside hitter
Maritza Morency (Noveau Bird / Port-au-Prince, Haiti).
The Panthers were their own worst enemies in the set as they actually led BC in team kills, 11-8, but also accumulated 10 attack errors in the stanza, leading to their demise.
Set two saw Clark turn things around, winning the period 25-21, while notching nine kills and limiting their errors to six.
Their momentum carried over to the third set as the Panthers cruised to take a 2-1 overall lead with a 25-16 win. Katie Freeney (Old Lyme / Old Lyme, CT) dished out nine assists in the set, while also notching 2 aces.
The Bulldogs had their most sluggish set of the match, only connecting on 5 kills, while misconnecting on seven errors.
Brooklyn seemed to regain the momentum in the fourth set as they went on a 6-2 run to start, however Clark would go on an 8-2 run to take a 10-8 lead a few minutes later.
After a side out,
Kathy Chu (Bayside / Queens, NY) entered off the BC bench to serve for four straight points and give her team the lead, 13-10. The two teams would battle back and forth for the next few points with no big runs until a
Lisenia Rodriguez (New Utrecht / Brooklyn, NY) service error would break the 18 all tie in favor of the Cougars.
Clark would go on a 6-2 run to end the match, winning the final set 25-20, and defeating the home Bulldogs in four sets.
Colette Dragon (Spring Valley / Spring Valley, NY) led Brooklyn with nine kills while Morency chipped in with 8.
Noelle Benson (Ontario / Ontario, CA) led the Bulldogs with 22 digs.
Brooklyn will be back on the West Quad floor Tuesday evening as they host Baruch College at 7 pm. The match will be the final home contest for the team and therefore will play host to Senior Night festivites in which the squad's senior players are honored. All fans are encouraged to come out and support!
