Women’s Volleyball Splits CNR Tri-Match

New Rochelle, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (8-6) traveled up to New Rochelle, NY to take part in the College of New Rochelle tri-match on Friday evening. The Bulldogs defeated host New Rochelle in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-15), in the opening match, before then falling to CUNYAC rival Lehman College, 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 12-25, 25-20), in a non-conference match in the second game.

In its first game, Brooklyn was led by a trio of freshmen in Maritza Morency (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Nouveau College Bird), Jillian Escobar (Queens Village, NY/Francis Lewis) and Amanda Fiore (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner). Morency totaled eight kills, six digs and two blocks, while Escobar finished the match with seven kills, 12 digs and a pair of aces. Fiore, the reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, helped pace the offense with 13 assists, to go along with three aces and seven digs. Junior captain Caitlin McMullen (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) chipped in with five kills, three blocks and six digs.

Morency and Escobar once again fueled the Bulldogs offense in the nightcap; as Morency posted a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs, while Escobar recorded nine kills and 14 digs. Junior Colette Dragon (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) chipped in with six kills, while McMullen had another solid outing with six kills, four digs and two blocks. 

Brooklyn returns to action on Monday, October 11th, when the Bulldogs will play a pair of league matches in the CUNYAC Multi-Match, which will take place at Brooklyn College. BC will take on the College of Staten Island at 9:00 am, before then taking on York College at 1:00 pm.
