Bronxville, NY – The Brooklyn College Women's Swimming and Diving team dropped a pair of close meets at the Sarah Lawrence College Tri-Meet earlier today in Bronxville, NY. The Bulldogs fell to host Sarah Lawrence 65-52 and lost to the College of Mount Saint Vincent 63-57.
Going up against host Sarah Lawrence, the Bulldogs were led by
Valentina Monroy (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow) and
Lucie O'Donnell (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach). Monroy won all three events she swam in, including the 200-Yard Individual Medley, the 100-Yard Butterfly and the 200-Yard Freestyle. O'Donnell won the 100-Yard Freestyle and the 100-Yard Individual Medley.
Brooklyn was once again paced by O'Donnell and Monroy against Mount St. Vincent, as O'Donnell won the 500 and the 100-Yard Freestyle and the 100-Yard Individual Medley for a second time. Monroy continued to excel in her events winning the 200-Yard Individual Medley, the 100-Yard Butterfly and the 200-Yard Freestyle again.
Other swimmers who contributed were
Catherine Chan (Flushing, NY/Townsend Harris) who won the 50-Yard Breaststroke and
Megan Pendergast (Warwick, NY/Warwick) who won the 50-Yard Butterfly.
“Overall, the women demonstrated once again that they are a small but talented group,” said Head Coach Jillian Wyrick. “It was our fourth meet in eight days and although we were tired, we raced really tough. It was the first time we have competed four events (usually it's only three), and I'm really proud of our women for fearlessly taking on the challenge, and leaving it all in the pool.”
Brooklyn will be back in action on Monday, November 22nd as the Bulldogs will take on borough rival Saint Joseph's College (Brooklyn). The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
