Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team had its season-high six game winning streak ended as they dropped a non-conference game to the Valiants of Manhattanville College by a score of 77-62, earlier today in the CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer Classic held at the Apex on the campus of Lehman College. The Bulldogs fall to 6-3 on the season, while the Valiants improve to 5-4 on the year.
Manhattanville took the early advantage with an 11-4 run through the first five minutes of the opening half. Trailing 17-12 with 11:26 left in the half, Brooklyn used an 8-0 run to take a 20-17 lead at the 8:39 mark. The teams would exchange baskets throughout the end of the half as Brooklyn headed into the break with a 35-33 advantage.
The second half featured much of the same as both teams battled back and forth for control of the game. Ahead by two, 54-52, with 8:24 left in the game, the Valiants scored 13 straight points over the next four minutes to take a commanding 67-52 advantage. Manhattanville would maintain a double digit advantage throughout the rest of the game, as the Valiants cruised to the 77-62 victory.
Simona Gordon led all scorers for Manhattanville with a game-high 26 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field. Courtney Turner was also in double figures with 22 points, to go along with six assists.
For Brooklyn, Ariel Smith netted a team-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds. Justine O'Callahan finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Elisha Raiford and Lauren Plagainos each chipped in with nine points apiece.
The Bulldogs are off for finals and the holiday break until December 30th, when Brooklyn will travel to Hoboken, NJ to take on Stevens Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
