Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Swimming & Diving team defeated the Panthers of the College of Old Westbury earlier today, 89-69. The Bulldogs improve to 3-5 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 0-6.
Brooklyn got on the board early taking first place in the opening event, the 200-Yard Medley Relay, as the quartet of
Sun Mei Liu (New Hyde Park, NY/Townsend Harris),
Catherine Chan (Flushing, NY/Townsend Harris),
Valentina Monroy (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow) and
Marisa Paolillo (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) posted a time of 2:25.23
Monroy and Paolillo also had solid individual performances as each took home a pair of first place finishes. Monroy took first place in the 200-Yard Freestyle (2:18.85) as well as the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:13.45), while Paolillo took first in the 50-Yard Freestyle (28.57) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:05.52).
Lucie O'Donnell (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) had a banner day coming in first place in three events, winning the 1,000-Yard Freestyle (12:35.07), the 200-Yard Individual Medley (2:41.73) and the 500-Yard Freestyle (6:32.22).
"The women have really found their rhythm," said Head Coach Jillian Wyrick. "They are confident about their ability and their events, and do a great job pulling their weight and doing what they need to do to win. We still have work to do, but I'm happy with where we are today."
Brooklyn will be back in action this Wednesday, December 8th, as the Bulldogs will host CUNY Athletic Conference rival the College of Staten Island at 6:00 pm at the West Quad Center Pool.
