Brooklyn, NY --- The BC Women's Basketball Team (15-9, 9-4 CUNYAC) had everything working for them on Sunday afternoon as they cruised past the CSI Dolphins (12-11, 9-4 CUNYAC) 89-60. The win brought the team's conference record to 9-4 and earned the team its first ever CUNYAC South Division title.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in front of the home fans, as Justine O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) finished of the run with a put back.
Staten Island responded with a 12-8 run of their own, capped off by a Mallory Ameneiros (St. Peter's / Staten Island, NY) jumper to cut the lead to 18-14 with 10:20 remaining in the half.
A steal and lay-up by Sabrina Washington (Elmira Free / Elmira, NY) would extend the BC lead to 10, 30-20 with 3:38 to go in the half, before going on a 12-9 run to end the period, taking a 42-29 lead into the locker room.
The second half saw Brooklyn dominate as CSI could never cut the lead to less than 12 points, and the Bulldogs quickly extended their lead to 20, cruising to the 29-point victory.
Frances Lyons (James Madison / Brooklyn, NY) steadied the Bulldogs with 24 points and 14 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, while shooting 65% from the floor.
Justin O'Callahan (Floral Park / Floral Park, NY) contributed with 12 points and six boards.
Amber Gordon (Bishop Loughlin / Brooklyn, NY) and Priscilla Ramirez (Franklin D. Roosevelt / Brooklyn, NY) both scored in double figures, with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Washington chipped in with 8 points off the BC bench, while Elisha Raiford (William C. Bryant / Long Island City, NY) also gave some big minutes, scoring 8 points and grabbing 7 boards.
Kristen Panariello (St. Joseph by the Sea / Staten Island, NY) led the Dolphins with 16 points.
Up next for the BC women, a clash with Briarcliffe College, as the opening game of a men's and women's double-header on Tuesday, February 16 at 6 pm. The evening will be Senior Night as the team honors their five seniors in the regular season home finale.
