Purchase, NY---After dropping the first set of their season-opener, the Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Squad (1-0) showed a great deal of heart by coming back on the road to win in four, (25-27, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20), over the host Purchase College (0-2)
Head Coach
Joanne Riggs and her young squad, which features three freshman and five newcomers in the starting lineup, wins their first match of the young season. The Bulldogs dropped a match to Purchase last season in three sets, but won the previous three meetings against the Panthers.
Junior middle hitter
Caitlin McMullen (Midwood / Brooklyn, NY), one of the team's veterans, led the team with 11 kills and 4 blocks.
Freshman outside hitter
Maritza Morency (Noureau College Bird / Port-au-Prince, Haiti) headed up the Bulldog defense with 13 digs, while classmate
Amanda Fiore (Susan E. Wagner / Staten Island, NY) dished out a team-high 29 assists and put away 7 service aces.
Coach Riggs was excited by the team's effort, saying, "The team came on the court full of energy and ready to win. We are looking forward to this weekend's conference multi-match."
The Bulldogs next action will take place in Saturday's CUNYAC multi-match at York College in Jamaica, NY. BC will face conference opponents City Tech at 1 pm and Medgar Evers at 5 pm.
