Brooklyn, NY --- Following a 23-day hiatus for finals and the holiday break, the Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team will kick off the 2011 portion of its 2010-2011 season tonight at 7:30 pm when the Bulldogs will travel to non-conference borough rival Saint Joseph's College (Brooklyn).
BC finished the 2010 portion of this season's schedule with a 4-5 overall record and will look to make a strong push in 2011 at a third straight CUNY Athletic Conference championship.
Before the Bulldogs get into the bulk of their CUNYAC schedule, Brooklyn will take on the Bears of St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) tonight at Brooklyn Technical High School. The Bears come into tonight's contest with a 2-9 overall record.
Brooklyn has four starters averaging double figures in scoring, led by junior
Tyshawn Russell, who is pouring in a team-best 15.6 points per game. Classmate
Amil John is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game, while seniors
Ahmad Hemingway and
Darnell Cudjoe are chipping in with 13.3 ppg and 11.1 ppg, respectively. John is leading the team in both steals (4.3 spg) and assists (3.9 apg), while Cudjoe is pacing the team in both field goal shooting with 60.8% (45-for-74) and minutes played (34.4 mpg). Sophomore
Steven Grant has been solid in the paint averaging a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game, to go along with 7.7 points per game.
The Bears are led by senior Donald Coleman who is averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game, to go with 7.5 rebounds per contest. Sophomore Ismael Dabo is averaging a team-best 7.6 caroms per game, while also chipping in with 8.2 points per game. Freshman David Ortiz is dishing out a team-leading 3.4 assists per game.
