Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team swept its tri-match earlier today at the West Quad Center, downing the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College, 3-0 (25-6, 25-19, 25-23), in the opener and later defeating the Cougars of Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-15), in the nightcap. The wins improve BC to 8-7 overall on the season.
Coming against the Gryphons, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore
Maritza Morency, who tallied a match-high nine kills, while hitting .615, to go along with six service aces and six digs. Junior
Kathy Chu helped pace the offense recording a match-best 21 assists, while senior
Iris Clopton-Robinson chipped in with 10 digs. The serving of freshman
Daniza Pina also aided the Brooklyn victory, as Pina registered five aces in the match.
For the Gryphons, Kathryn O'Sullivan posted five kills and 10 digs, while Alexis Chapman finished the day with eight assists.
Sarah Lawrence would even its record on the day, as the Gryphons topped Medgar Evers in the second game of the day, in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 15-8). The win improved Sarah Lawrence's record to 2-11 on the season.
In Brooklyn's second game of the day against Medgar Evers, the Bulldogs were led by senior
Caitlin McMullen and sophomore
Jillian Escobar, as the duo each totaled a match-best nine kills for the game. Chu once again paced the offense dishing out a match-high 27 assists, while junior
Annalisa Carbonaro was solid defensively recording 13 digs.
For the Cougars, Catheline Joseph and Janiece Hill each notched four kills, while AnnMarie Bernberry and Grace Mercado each dished out seven assists. Kiwelewa Mlimwengu recorded eight digs in the game. Medgar Evers moves to 0-11 overall on the season with the losses today.
Brooklyn is back in action next Monday, October 10th, as the Bulldogs will participate in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Multi-Match, which will see BC take on the Cardinals of York College and the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island. CSI will play host to the multi-match.
