Box Score vs. College of Staten Island
Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team won both of its matches earlier today at the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Multi-Match, which was held at the College of Staten Island. With the wins, BC improves to 10-7 overall on the season and 5-1 in the CUNYAC. The Bulldogs have now also won four straight matches.
In their first match of the day, the Bulldogs defeated the Cardinals of York College in straight sets, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-12).
Leading the way to the BC victory was sophomore
Jillian Escobar, who totaled seven kills, seven digs, four aces and a block solo. Classmate
Maritza Morency added five kills, four aces and seven digs; while senior
Caitlin McMullen finished with five kills, one ace and a block solo. Junior
Kathy Chu helped pace the offense with 21 assists.
Brooklyn was also victorious in its second match of the day, as the Bulldogs defeated the host Dolphins of CSI in four sets, 3-1. After dropping the first set 25-18, BC would come back to take the next three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) to complete the two-match sweep on the day.
Chu was once again instrumental in setting up the offense, dishing out a match-high 30 assists. Morency led Brooklyn with a match-best 16 kills (.394 hitting percentage), to go along with a team-best 14 digs for the double-double. She also recorded three service aces. Escobar added 11 kills, a match-high eight aces and seven digs, while junior
Alicia Sanchez chipped in with six kills, three aces, five digs and three total blocks. McMullen finished the night with five kills, three aces and three total blocks.
Brooklyn will be back in action this Friday, October 14th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Panthers of Purchase College in non-conference action. The match will be the final home game of the 2011 regular season, as BC will honor its seniors
