Women’s Tennis Advances to CUNYAC Semifinals with 5-0 Win Over Lehman

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY ---- The #1 seeded Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team was victorious in its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Hospital for Special Surgery Women's Tennis Championships Quarterfinals match over #8 seeded Lehman College Lightning, 5-0.

The Bulldogs, who are now 13-2 overall on the season, will now advance to the semifinals round tomorrow, Friday, October 21st, at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY, where they will play #4 seeded the College of Staten Island at 4:00 pm. CSI defeated #5 seeded the City College of New York (CCNY), 5-1, in their quarterfinals match.

Prior to the start of the match, seniors Janice Shen and Natalie Gonzalez were honored for their hard work and dedication to the BC Women's Tennis program as part of Senior Day.

Brooklyn would take an early 2-0 advantage from the start, as Lehman was forced to default its number three doubles and number six singles matches due to only having five players.

Beginning with doubles play, the Bulldogs would easily take the number one and two flights, as the tandem of freshman Yuliya Orkis and sophomore Liana Rivkin downed the pairing of Nellya Blinova and Patricia Cadet, 8-1, at number one doubles; while the duo of Maria Sanz and Diana Rafailova defeated the team of Marisela Camano and Aminat Adebayo, 8-3, at number two doubles.

In singles play, Norma Lynn Chabbott secured the BC victory with a straight sets win over Jeremaeh Torres, 6-0, 6-0, at number five singles.
