Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball Team honored their two seniors,
Caitlin McMullen and
Iris Clopton-Robinson, on Thursday evening prior to their home match against Purchase, and then proceeded to dismantle the Panthers in a three-set, 25-15, 25-22, 25-12 victory.
The Bulldogs were in control of the match right from the start of play as McMullen and
Alicia Sanchez controlled play early with some outstanding service play, helping Brooklyn to a commanding 14-4 lead.
Purchase would rally to close the deficit to eight at 19-11, however that is the closest they would get as BC closed out the set, winning 25-15.
In the second set, the Panthers put up some resistance as they fought back from a 5-2 deficit to take a 17-15 lead midway through they set on a Lindsay Froman kill.
Brooklyn would answer right back with a
Maritza Morency kill, accompanied by a couple of McMullen aces and a Purchase attack error, to regain the lead, 19-18. Purchase would win the following two points to go up 20-19, the home Bulldogs proved to be too much, finishing the set with a 6-2 rally.
In the third set Purchase played hard to tie Brooklyn at 11 early on, however the road team ran out of steam as the Bulldogs cruised for the remainder, finishing the set on a14-1 run, as junior setter
Kathy Chu served the final 11 points of the match, including four aces.
The offensive star of the evening was Morency, who would finish with a match-high 15 kills, while hitting at a .500 percent clip. McMullen, shined in her last home regular season match, with six kills and five aces, while her classmate, Clopton-Robinson added a match-high 10 digs.
The squad will be back in action on Saturday as they head to the Rutgers Newark Trimatch on Saturday October 22, where they will take on the hosts as well as FDU-Florham.
