Women's Tennis Drops Final, 5-1, To Hunter, Finishes Season 14-3

Flushing, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team's Outstanding 2011 season came to a close on Saturday evening as they fell in the Championship match of the CUNYAC / Hostpital for Special Surgery Championships to Hunter College, 5-1.  

The Bulldogs, who were the conference's regular season champion, finished the season with a 14-3 record, while the Hawks improved to 9-4.

Hunter took control of the match in doubles play as they took both the #1 and #2 matches by 8-2 scores. Their #1 combo of Jennifer Kraham and Flavia Guidi were outstanding in dismantling Yuliya Orkis and Lianna Rivkin.

BC's duo of Janice Shen and Gianna Gelosi came up big in the #3 match, easing by Hunter's Stephanie Ahwreng and Caroline Kaleda, 8-3.

Hunter would close out the title with straight sets singles wins at the #2, #3 and #5 flights.  

Brooklyn's Orkis (#1) and Norma Chabbott (#6) each won first sets in their singles matches, however neither were able to finish as per championship rules, play is halted as soon as one team has claimed the five matches they need to win the overall match.

"Even though we didn't get the desired result today, I thought we had a tremendous season and our team should be proud with our accomplishments," said BC Head Coach Ahmad Odetalla.  "We will do our best to be back here next season."

With only two seniors, Janice Shen and Natalie Gonzalez, the Bulldogs have a core that will be have an opportunity to build on this season and do great things in the future.
