Newark, NJ --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches earlier today playing in the Rutgers University – Newark tri-match at the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ.
In their opening game, the Bulldogs fell to the host Scarlet Raiders 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-13) and in their second match of the day against Fairleigh Dickinson University – College at Florham, Brooklyn dropped another 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-9) contest. With the losses, BC now stands at 11-10 overall on the season.
Coming against Rutgers-Newark, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore outside hitter
Maritza Morency who tallied a team-best 11 kills in the match, to go along with a team-high 14 digs for the double-double. Junior setter
Kathy Chu also posted a double-double, with 21 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Jillian Escobar chipped in with 10 digs, eight kills and two service aces.
Leading the Scarlet Raiders to victory was Rachel Witt, who recorded a match-best 13 kills (.571 hitting percentage). Jen Mendoza paced the offense with match-high 30 assists, while Toni Moppert and Paulina Walega totaled 18 and 10 digs, respectively.
In the nightcap, BC was once again led by Morency, who recorded a team-best seven kills, to go along with six digs. Chu paced the offense with 17 assists, to go along with five digs.
FDU-Florham was led by Chelsea Hoeffler who finished with 10 kills (.368 hitting percentage). Nicole Weissert and Riley Brewer split the setting with 17 and 13 assists, respectively. Weissert also chipped in with 10 digs for the double-double, while Marta Matera added 14 digs.
Brooklyn returns to action on Tuesday, October 25th, as the Bulldogs will play its final CUNY Athletic Conference match of the regular season against the Bearcats of Baruch College. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
