Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team dropped its final match of the 2011 regular season on the road earlier today to the Panthers of the College at Old Westbury in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18), in a non-conference match at the Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, NY.
With the loss, the Bulldogs finish the regular season with an 11-12 overall record, while the Panthers improve to 19-14 overall on the year.
For BC, sophomore outside hitter
Maritza Morency recorded a team-high nine kills, while tying for the team-lead in digs with seven. Classmate
Jillian Escobar chipped in with seven kills and five digs, while junior setter
Kathy Chu paced the offense with 20 assists. Senior
Iris Clopton-Robinson added seven digs on the day.
The Panthers were led by Ashley Greene who tallied a game-best 11 kills on the day, while hitting a solid .381. Ruth Vargas added 10 kills, while hitting an impressive .500. Old Westbury would hit .295 (38 kills/12 errors/88 total attacks) for the game. Tynisha George dished out match-high 27 assists in the win.
Brooklyn will now turn its attention towards the postseason, as the Bulldogs clinched the #4 seed in the upcoming 2011 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Con Edison Women's Volleyball Championships. BC will play host to the #5 seeded Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 1st, at the West Quad Center. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
