Men’s Soccer Ties Berkeley 2-2

Box Score

Staten Island, NY --- Playing at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex, the Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against non-conference rival Berkeley College on rainy afternoon. The tie moves the Bulldogs to 1-7-1 overall on the season, while the Knights go to 5-6-1 overall on the year.

The Knights were the aggressors early on in the match, as Berkeley got on the scoreboard first in the 2nd minute of action when Ulises Bravo sent a cross to teammate David Mugenga who put in the opening goal over the keeper's head.

Mugenga would strike again with his second goal on the afternoon just minutes later, taking advantage of a rebound opportunity in the ninth minute, to make it 2-0 in favor of the visiting Knights.

The game would remain 2-0 heading into the halftime break.

The second half would feature a much more offensively charged Bulldogs squad, as Brooklyn picked up the offensive tempo, keeping the ball on Berkeley's side of the field for the majority of the half, which led to BC outshooting Berkeley 12-0 in the period.

BC finally got on the board in the 63rd minute, as junior Miguel Veliz-Fitz was in the right place at the right time to take a cross from classmate Brandon Sewnath in front of the net to beat the keeper for his first goal of the season.

Veliz-Fitz would not waste much time getting his second goal of the season, as he was again in the right place at the right time to take another cross in front of the net, this time from junior Denton Laing, to head in the equalizer in the 69th minute.

Both teams would have their chances down the stretch, as well as the two overtime periods, however, the game would eventually end in a 2-2 tie.

BC sophomore goaltender Stamatis Boundouris was strong in net once again, playing all 110 minutes, while allowing two goals and recording seven saves. His counterpart, Camilo Montes, also played the entire 110 minutes, while also allowing a pair of goals and registering 11 saves.

Brooklyn is back in action on Wednesday, October 5th, as the Bulldogs will take on City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Hunter College. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Kingsborough Community College field.
