Bulldogs Too Much For Bloodhounds As BC Improves To 5-0 In CUNYAC Play

Brooklyn, NY---One day after taking over first place in the CUNYAC standings, the Brooklyn College Women's Tennis Team improved to 5-0 in league play with a commanding 9-0 win over John Jay. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-4 both overall and in the conference, while Brooklyn improved to 8-2 overall.

Janice Shen, typically a #3 singles player for the Bulldogs, was moved up to #1 as Yuliya Orkis and Lianna Rifkin were each given the day off. Shen shined as she cruised past John Jay's Ashley Marrero, 6-0, 6-0.

Gianna Gelosi (#3 singles), Maryam Raza (#5 singles) and Natalie Gonzalez (#6 singles), each won their respective matches by the same scores as Shen, 6-0, 6-0.

Hadiya Cameron (#4 singles) had a little tougher a time with her singles opponent, winning a 6-2, 6-0 match, while Maria Sanz, playing #2 singles, had the most competitive match, pulling out a 6-3, 2-1 victory in which her opponent retired in the second set due to injury.

BC will be back in action on Monday, October 10, as they continue their match against York that was halted due to rain this past Monday. The match was stopped during doubles play with all three matches undecided. Play will begin at 2pm in a match that is crucial to the CUNYAC standings.
