BC Women Get Second Straight Win, Lap Old Westbury 98-81

Brooklyn, NY---Fresh off its victory on Thursday evening over borough rival St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), the Brooklyn College Women's Swimming & Diving team earned its second win in three days, defeating the College at Old Westbury, 98-81, in the Bulldogs' 2011-2012 home opener on Saturday afternoon in the West Quad Center. 

The Bulldogs started the meet in style as their 200 Medley Relay team of Stephanie Caravello, Catherine Chan, Valentina Monroy and Megan Pendergast took first place with a time of 1:17.29.

BC would follow that performance with a sweep of the next two events, the 1,000 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle.  In the 1,000, Monroy blew the field away, finishing with a time of 13:35.73, while teammate Angela Redekop took third place.
In the 200, Pendergast took the top spot with a time of 2:24.21.

Monroy and Redekop would finish in the top two spots of the 100 Butterfly, gaining the team 13 points.  Caravello, a two-sport athlete and star on the BC softball team, took first place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:19.58.

In the next event, the 500 Freestyle, Pendergast was outstanding once again, finishing first with a time of 6:30.39.  Jillian Escobar, another two-sport athlete and star on the volleyball team, took third place in the event. 

Chan and Escobar took second and third place in the 100 Breaststroke, clinching the victory for the Bulldogs, who are now 2-1 on the season. 

The team will be back in the West Quad Center Pool on Wednesday, November 30th when they host CUNY Athletic Conference foe Hunter College at 6:00 pm.
