New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team remained perfect in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play with its 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 26-24) straight sets victory over the Bloodhounds of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. With the win, BC improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC; while John Jay falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.
After trailing 3-1 early in the opening set, the Bulldogs would rattle off seven straight points to take an 8-3 advantage, highlighted by three straight service aces from junior
Kathy Chu. BC would never trail in the set again as Brooklyn would go on to the 25-18 win.
The second set would see a see-saw battle early on. Tied at 8 all, BC would seize control of the match going on a 12-5 run to take a 20-13 lead, en route to a 25-16 victory.
The third set featured a tight battle throughout, as each team looked to gain the upper hand. In the end, the Bulldogs would edge out the Bloodhounds in a thrilling 26-24 victory for the straight sets win.
For Brooklyn, senior
Caitlin McMullen and sophomore
Jillian Escobar each tallied six kills, while Chu dished out a match-high 22 assists to go along with five service aces. McMullen finished the match with a solid .385 hitting percentage. Escobar also added 11 digs, while senior
Iris Clopton-Robinson recorded a game-high 14 digs.
For John Jay, Martina Hot registered a match-high eight kills, while Katherine Bonilla contributed with 16 assists. Renauta Sailsman finished the match with 10 digs.
BC will be back in action this Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 pm, as the Bulldogs will take on borough rival St. Joseph's College – Brooklyn for their 2011 home opener. Brooklyn will be hosting “School Spirit Night”, as the first 250 fans through the doors, which will open at 6:15 pm, will receive FREE white BC Bulldogs t-shirts.
