Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Past CCNY, 3-0

New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team remained perfect in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play with its 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-23) straight sets victory over the City College of New York (CCNY). With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-4 overall on the season and 3-0 in the CUNYAC; while the Beavers fall to 1-11 overall on the year and 1-3 in the conference.

Sophomore Maritza Morency helped lead the way for BC with a team-high seven kills, four digs and an ace, while classmate Jillian Escobar chipped in with six kills and six aces. Senior Caitlin McMullen added four kills, five digs and an ace and junior Kathy Chu helped pace the offense with a game-high 19 assists.

“This was an important conference match,” said head coach Joanne Riggs. “BC set the tone for the level of play and held onto it throughout the match.”

CCNY was led by Zuleyka Polanco's match-high eight kills, while Dalliana Toussaint added nine digs. Sophia Palumbo finished the night with 11 assists.

Brooklyn will return to the court this Saturday, September 24th, as the Bulldogs will travel to New Rochelle, NY to take on the College of New Rochelle, along with conference and borough rival Medgar Evers College in a tri-match. Brooklyn and Medgar will square off at 1:00 pm, while BC will take on New Rochelle at 5:00 pm.
