Jamaica, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team concluded its 2012 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season with a 7-2 victory over the York College Cardinals. The win improves the Bulldogs to 7-1 in the conference and 9-3 overall on the season; while the Cardinals fall to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the league.

"With this being our last regular season match,  we wanted to make sure we built some momentum going into the conference championships next week,” said head coach Ahmad Odetalla.  “I'm proud of the way we performed tonight and throughout the season, and hopefully we can continue playing well in the playoffs."

The match began with doubles play, as Brooklyn would take a 2-1 lead after taking the #1 and #3 doubles flights.
The BC tandem of Yuliya Orkis and Liana Rivkin blanked the York pair of Valerie Roland and Maleeka Chin, 8-0, at #1 doubles; while the Brooklyn duo of Olayinka Sarayi and Gianna Gelosi cruised past the Cardinal team of Nikita Ramsay and Emma Sach, 8-1, at #3 doubles.

Changing over to singles play, the Bulldogs would take full control of the match, as Brooklyn took five of the six singles flights to en route to its 7-2 victory.

Orkis and Gelosi dominated in their individual play, as both players took home 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1 and #6 singles, respectively.

Rivkin (6-2, 6-3) and Maria Sanz (6-3, 6-2) also picked up wins in singles for BC at #2 and #3 singles, respectively.

The match of the day came at #5 singles between Sarayi and Ramsay. After Ramsay took the opening set, 6-4; Sarayi bounced back to take the second set, 6-2, forcing a third and deciding set. In the end, it would be Sarayi who gutted out a come-from-behind win, taking the third set tiebreaker, 12-10.

Brooklyn will now turn its attention to the CUNYAC Women's Tennis Championships, as the Bulldogs will begin their quest to return to the championship final. BC's first hurdle will be in the Quarterfinals Round, which will be held on Wednesday, October 17th. Brooklyn's opponent will be determined at a later date.
