Men’s Soccer Completes CUNYAC Regular Season with 1-0 Win Over Staten Island

Box Score Staten Island, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team concluded its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season with a 1-0 shutout victory against the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island earlier today at the CSI Soccer Complex.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-4-2 overall and finish the season with a 5-1-2 mark in the CUNYAC; while the Dolphins fall to an even 9-9 overall and complete the regular season with an even 4-4 record in conference play.

The win also keeps BC undefeated in the month of October, extending their winning streak to five straight.

Brooklyn got on the board early in the game, as Steve Orellana passed to an open Peterson Petit Frere in the box, who blasted home the lone goal of the day in the 15th minute to put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard.

The 1-0 margin would hold up throughout the entire match, as the Bulldogs' defense held the Dolphins to seven shots in the match. Junior goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris was solid between the pipes for BC, as he played all 90 minutes in goal, while making four saves en route to his second straight shutout and fourth overall this season.

CSI's Ahmed El-Gahreib also played all 90 minutes in net, while making one save and surrendering one goal.

“It shows a lot of character when you don't play to the best of your ability and win a tough game,” said head coach Rawle Hensford. “That was the case today. We were able to score early and keep CSI from equalizing.”

Brooklyn will return to the pitch for their 2012 regular season finale on Friday, October 19th, as the Bulldogs will welcome the Gryphons of the Sarah Lawrence College to Brooklyn College Field. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time.
