Women’s Volleyball Falls to Sarah Lawrence in Straight Sets

Box Score Bronxville, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team lost a non-conference match tonight against the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College. The Bulldogs fell in straight sets, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22, to drop to 3-15 overall on the season. The Gryphons improve to 13-11 overall on the season with the win.

Sarah Lawrence controlled the first set from the opening serve, as the Gryphons jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The home team would never trail in the set en route to its 25-18 win.

The second set was much more competitive early on, featuring five ties and four lead changes. With Brooklyn leading 9-7, the Gryphons used a 6-0 run to take control of the set, 13-9. Sarah Lawrence would never look back; as they would go on to take the set, 25-16.

The third set would be the most competitive; however, the Bulldogs would only be able to tie the game on three occasions, as the Gryphons answered every BC challenge, while never relinquishing its lead. Sarah Lawrence would go on to take the final set, 25-22.

Brooklyn was led by junior Jillian Escobar, who tallied a team-high five kills. Senior Alicia Sanchez dished out seven assists, while classmate Annalisa Carbonaro chipped in with eight digs.

For Sarah Lawrence, Jomana Abdallah recorded nine kills, while Kitty O'Sullivan and Zoe Spanbroek added eight and seven kills, respectively. Brooklynn Moore paced the offense with 22 assists, while Abdallah also contributed with nine digs.

Brooklyn will be back in action on Tuesday, October 22nd, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a key City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match up. The game is also BC's final home game of the 2012 season, as seniors Sanchez, Carbonaro, Kathy Chu and Electra Telesford will all be honored for their hard work and dedication to the BC Women's Volleyball program.
