Women’s Tennis Downs Lehman

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team continued its solid play within the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), as the Bulldogs defeated the Lightning of Lehman College 7-0 this afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts on the BC campus.

With the win, Brooklyn improves to 5-2 overall on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the CUNYAC, while Lehman falls to 5-6 overall on the year and 1-3 in league play.

Brooklyn began the match by sweeping doubles play to take a controlling 3-0 lead. BC would continue to dominate play in singles action, as the Bulldogs took five singles victories en route to their 7-0 win. #3 and #4 singles would go unfinished due to darkness.

Co-captains Yuliya Orkis and Maria Sanz led the way for BC, as both notched victories in doubles and singles. Coming at #1 doubles, Orkis teamed with Norma Lynn Chabbott to defeat the team of Nellya Blinova and Marisela Camano, 8-2. Orkis would later earn a 6-0, 6-0 victory of Blinova at #1 singles.

Sanz partnered with Maryam Esperanza F. Razaz at #2 doubles, where they were victorious over the duo of Cristie Peralta and Fiona Crowley, 8-3. Sanz would later go on to bear Camano 6-0, 6-3 at #2 singles.

Olayinka Sarayi also had a solid win over Fiona Crowley, 6-0, 7-5 at #5 singles.

Brooklyn will be back in action tomorrow, Thursday, October 4th, as the Bulldogs will take on the Bearcats of Baruch College in a battle of undefeated teams in CUNYAC play. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start time at the Roosevelt Courts.
