New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Swimming & Diving team fell to the Hawks of Hunter College, 55-40, on Tuesday night in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) meet at the Hunter North Pool. With the loss, BC drops to an even 2-2 overall on the season and 0-2 in the CUNYAC; while Hunter improves to 1-3 overall on the year and an even 1-1 in the conference.
The Hawks took first place in eight of the 11 events that were swum on the night to control the meet.
The Bulldogs were led by juniors
Valentina Monroy and
Stephanie Caravello.
Monroy posted a pair of first place finishes, as she was the first to touch the wall in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:18.28, as well as the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:25.90.
Caravello recorded a first place finish in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:18.03.
Monroy and Caravello came in second and third place, respectively, in the 200-Yard IM, as Monory posted a time of 2:48.50; while Caravello posted a time of 3:00.07.
Other notable individual performances came from juniors
Megan Pendergast and
Patricia Velloza and sophomores
Laura Rodriguez and
Angela Redekop.
Pendergast posted two second place finishes, recording a time of 1:02.53 in the 100-Yard Freestyle and a time of 1:26.93 in the 100-Yard Breaststroke.
Velloza came in second in the 50-Yard Freestyle (29.71) and third in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:38.61).
Rodriguez posted a second place finish in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:31.61; while Redekop came in third place in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 16:08.38.
Coming in the last event of the night, the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of sophomore
Jacquelynn Jackson, senior
Florina Petcu, junior
Jacqueline Szpunt and Redekop was awarded the first place finish with a time of 2:28.70.
BC returns to the pool on Friday, November 30th, as the Bulldogs will take on the Cardinals of York College in another CUNYAC contest. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at York in Jamaica, NY.
