New Rochelle, NY --- The Brooklyn College Swimming team defeated the College of New Rochelle by a score of 74-65 this evening. With the win, BC improves to 4-3 overall on the season, while the Blue Angels fall to 0-5 overall on the year.
The Bulldogs took first place in six of the 11 events that were competed in on the night.
Jacqueline Szpunt took first place in the longest event of the night, the 1,000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 16:08.95, while
Angela Redekop was the first to touch the wall in the second longest event, the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 7:58.98. Szpunt also came in second in the 500-Free with a time of 8:49.63; while Redekop posted second place finishes in both the 200-Yard Freestyle and the 200-Yard IM with times of 2:55.15 and 3:29.76, respectively.
Other top finishers were
Patricia Velloza (200-Yard Freestyle 2:38.01),
Danielle Mollo-Siano (50-Yard Freestyle 31.50),
Stephanie Caravello (200-Yard IM 3:00.71) and
Megan Pendergast (100-Yard Breaststroke 1:29.27) who all posted a first place finish to help propel BC to victory.
Coming in the first event of the night, the team of
Florina Petcu,
Tonia Jerrick, Mollo-Siano and
Jacquelynn Jackson came in second in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:16.55.
Brooklyn now concludes the 2012 portion of its 2012-2013 schedule. The Bulldogs will return to the pool on January 3rd when BC will host the Lightning of Lehman College in CUNY Athletic Conference action. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center Pool.
