Box Score 2 Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (0-2) kicked-off its 2012 campaign with a pair of losses in a tri-match held at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of SUNY College at Old Westbury earlier today. The Bulldogs dropped their opening match against William Patterson University (2-0) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-10-, 25-11, 25-12); and later came up short in a hard fought battle against host Old Westbury (1-2), 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18).
In its opening match on the day, BC was paced by senior
Alicia Sanchez who tallied five kills, with a .300 hitting percentage, to go along with four solo blocks. Classmate
Annalisa Carbonaro chipped in with 10 digs, while sophomore
Kayla Scurry dished out seven assists in her Brooklyn debut.
For the Pioneers, William Patterson was led by Taylor Woegens recorded six kills, while Liz Dykhouse handed out 10 assists. Alyssa Koukos registered seven digs on the day.
In the nightcap against host Old Westbury, Brooklyn was led by junior
Jillian Escobar who finished with 10 kills and 14 digs to record a double-double. She also recorded five service aces in an all-around effort. Freshman
Yelizaveta Malysheva added 13 digs in a solid defensive effort, while Scurry continued her strong play with 28 assists. Sanchez and junior
Manon Bailly were a force in the middle, accounting for five total blocks each.
The Panthers were led by Jocelyn Small and Jennifer Jean, as the duo tallied nine kills apiece. Kimberly Catania recorded a double-double with 26 assists and 18 digs.
Brooklyn will be back in action this Tuesday, September 4th, as the Bulldogs will take on a familiar foe with a rematch against William Patterson. Instead of a neutral court, the match will take place on the Pioneers home court in Wayne, NJ at 7:00 pm.
