Women’s Volleyball Falls to Purchase, 3-1

Box Score Purchase, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team fell to the Panthers of Purchase College tonight by a score of 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 17-25, 25-19). With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 0-7 overall, while the Panthers improve to 1-2 overall.

After the Panthers took the first set 25-18, both teams would battle in a see saw fashion during the second set, as Purchase would eventually squeak out a 28-26 win to go up 2-0. Brooklyn would not go down lightly, however, as the Bulldogs took the third set, 25-17, behind a strong hitting performance (.500 - 12 kills/1 error/22 total attacks) to force a fourth set. In the end, the host Panthers would take the final set, 25-19, to take the 3-1 match victory.

Brooklyn was led by junior Jillian Escobar, who tallied a match-high 12 kills with a .385 hitting percentage, to go along with eight aces and eight digs; while senior Annalisa Carbonaro chipped in with 15 digs. Freshman Yelizaveta Malysheva paced the offense dishing out 18 assists, to go with three service aces.

Purchase's Megan Toole recorded 10 kills and 11 digs, while Maggie Brenenstuhl handed out 22 assists.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, September 20th, as Brooklyn will hit the road to take on borough and conference rival Medgar Evers College. The match is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
