Women’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman in Five-Set Heartbreaker

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker this evening against City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) rival Lehman College, 3-2 (0-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9), at the West Quad Center. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 2-10 overall on the season and 1-3 in the CUNYAC; while the Lightning improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

BC took an early 2-0 lead, as Lehman had to forfeit the first set due to its late arrival. Brooklyn would take a hard fought win second set 25-22, which featured six ties, for the early cushion. However, the Lightning would not go down lightly, as the visitors edged out victories in the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, to force a fifth and final decisive set.

Lehman would take the deciding set, 15-9, to take the match with the final score, 3-2.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Jillian Escobar who tallied a team-best 12 kills, to go along with a game-high 18 digs, recording a double-double. Escobar, currently ranked ninth in the nation in aces per set, continued her solid serving with six aces on the night. Senior Kathy Chu dished out 24 assists, while senior Annalisa Carbonaro and freshman Sasha Roopchand chipped in on defense with 14 digs apiece.

The Lightning were led by Cari English's team-high 12 kills, while Jo-Marie Aquino and Vanessa Brown finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Brown also contributed with 11 digs, to register a double-double. Imani Dubois paced the offense with a match-high 25 assists, while Julia Mercado added 13 digs.
