Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, Defeating CSI 66-49

Box Score Brooklyn, NY---The Broooklyn College Women's Basketball Team led from start to finish in their showdown with CUNYAC rival Staten Island on Friday evening, to take a 66-49 victory in front of their home crowd on Alumni Night. 

The win was their fourth straight, improving their overall record to 13-5, 7-2 in CUNYAC play.  CSI falls to 10-9 overall and 7-3 in the CUNYAC.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 8-4 lead after two Tiffany Thompson free throws, but a Megan Myhre three-pointer closed the gap to 8-7.  BC responded with a Jaclyn Grasso three-pointer and a Charnelle Saint Laurent bucket to go up six, 13-7, with 14:14 to go in the half.

The Dolphins came right back with a 9-3 run to tie the game at 16 after a basket by Danielle Kartalis, but Brooklyn's Brittany Bowen answered right back with one of her six three-pointers on the evening to help her team regain the lead.  The three sparked a 15-3 run to give BC their biggest lead of the half, 31-19.

Staten Island ended the half on an 8-0 run, capped by a buzzer beater by Lisa Galasso, who hit nothing but net from right inside the halfcourt line as the halftime buzzer sounded. 

Brooklyn's Vanessa D'ambrosi opened the second half with a three-pointer to extend the Bulldog lead to seven, before a 7-2 run for CSI cut the margin to two, however Brooklyn responded big, taking total control of the game with a 26-5 run, capped by a D'Ambrosi steal and layup, extending the BC advantage to 64-41 with 3:54 to go. 

Bowen led all scorers with 23, while shooting 8-16 from the field and 6-12 from three-point range.  D'Ambrosi had a great game with 14 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Thompson had eight points, 10 boards and three blocks, while Saint Laurent had eight points and six boards.

Sophomore Jaclyn Grasso had her biggest game of the season, coming off the bench with eight points, while shooting 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the three point line.  Trina Payne also came off the bench to chip in four assists and two steals.

Olivia Tierno led CSI with 12 points and eight boards.  Melanie Johnson chipped in with 11 points and four steals for the visitors.

Brooklyn's next game will be on the road as the team travels to York on Monday to take on the Cardinals at 6 pm.
