Swimming and Diving Teams Split Lehman Dual Meet

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams split a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) dual meet against the Lightning of Lehman College on Thursday night at the West Quad Center, as the BC Women (5-3, 2-3 CUNYAC) toppled Lehman 103-73 (0-8, 0-3 CUNYAC), and the BC Men (2-3, 2-2 CUNYAC) fell to the Lightning (4-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) 112-102.

On the Women's side, the Bulldogs dominated throughout the night, taking home nine of the 13 events on the night.

The foursome of Stephanie Caravello, Laura Rodriguez, Valentina Monroy and Danielle Mollo-Siano took home first place in the first event of the night, the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:32.21.

Caravello, Monroy and Patricia Velloza were solid in their individual events, as all three posted two first place finishes.

Caravello came in first in the 100-Yard Backstroke (1:14.56) and the 100-Yard Breaststroke (1:30.76); while Monroy was the first to touch the wall in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:13.06) and the 500-Yard Freestyle (6:31.06). Velloza posted first place finishes in the 200-Yard Freestyle (2:41.69) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:10.21).

Jacqueline Szpunt took top honors in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 16:10.05.

In the final event of the night, the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay, the quartet of Rodriguez, Szpunt, Grace Hernandez and Mollo-Siano took first with a time of 2:45.98.

On the Men's side, diver Antonio Gaspar continued to dominate the diving events, taking first place in both the 1 and 3-Meter Dives. Coming in the 1-Meter Dive, Gaspar posted a top score of 204.52, while in the 3-Meter Dive; he recorded a score of 225.00 to take first place.

Kevin Barros, Wilson Lee and James Marty also took first place in their individual events.

Barros took first in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:14.50, Lee took first in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 7:08.80 and Marty took first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.81.

The team of Blake Bakal, Bilal Moustapha, Daniel Nero and Barros took first in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:53.95.

Brooklyn returns to the pool on Friday, January 11th, when the Bulldogs will travel to Old Westbury, NY to take on the Panthers of the College at Old Westbury in a non-conference dual meet beginning at 7:00 pm.
