Brooklyn Men in Third, Women in Fourth After Day 1 of CUNYAC Swimming & Diving Championships

Bronx, NY --- After day one of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, which are being held at the Apex Pool on the campus of Lehman College, the Brooklyn men stand in third place out of five teams with 181 total points and the Brooklyn women are in fourth place out of six teams with 126 total points.

On the men's side, senior Antonio Gaspar got the Bulldogs on the board early taking first place in the 1-Meter Diving event. Gaspar posted a top score of 313.10 to beat out seven other divers.

Coming in the Men's 500-Yard Freestyle, seniors James Marty and Patrick O'Leary-Gullo each posted a top-10 finish, as Marty came in seventh place with a time of 6:18.53, while O'Leary-Gullo took ninth place with a time of 6:35.87.

Freshmen Kevin Barros and Terry Tsui each posted a top-10 finish in the Men's 200-Yard IM, as Barros came in seventh with a time of 2:30.90 and Tsui came in 10th with a time of 2:35.28.

On the women's side, juniors Valentina Monroy and Megan Pendergast and sophomore Laura Rodriguez all did well in Women's 500-Yard Freestyle. Monroy came fourth with a time of 6:09.20, while Pendergast was right behind her with a time of 6:27.04, good for fifth place. Rodriguez posted a 10th place finish with a time of 7:07.38.

Sophomore Jenny Lee came in sixth in the Women's 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:44.19, while junior Patricia Velloza came in 10th in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 29.55.

The foursome of Pendergast, freshman Danielle Mollo-Siano, Velloza and Monroy posted a fifth place finish in the Women's 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:56.65.

The conference championships will resume tomorrow, Friday, February 1st at 1:00 pm.
