Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Tennis team finished out their CUNYAC regular season schedule on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over York College, improving to 10-1 overall on the year and 6-1 in the CUNYAC on the season. The Cardinals fall to 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the CUNYAC.
The Bulldogs took all three doubles matches with relative ease.
Maria Sanz and
Olayinka Sarayi teamed up at #2 double to defeat Kamasha Sylvester and Tamara Dotson, 8-0.
Diana Beshta and
Sarah Bildirici paired up at #3 doubles to get past Lisa Smith and Fayeola Daniels, 8-0.
At #1 doubles, we saw the most competitive match, as
Yuliya Orkis and
Suraya Maenhout knocked off Tenzin Kunchok and Maleeka Chin, 8-3.
Orkis would later meet Chin in #1 singles and breeze to a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Maenhout would also defeat Kunchok at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Sanz met Joanne Ly in a #3 singles match with Sanz taking a decisive, 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Beshta (6-4, 6-2) slipped past Slyvester at #4 singles, while Sarayi bested Geneva Faulk, 6-2, 6-0 at #5 singles.
Completing the Brooklyn sweep was
Julia Krechmar, who defeated Alicia Deschamps, 6-0, 6-0, at #6 singles.
Brooklyn will conclude their regular season on Thursday as they travel to Farmingdale State to take on the Rams, a tough non-conference opponent, at 4:30 pm.
The Bulldogs will enter the CUNYAC Championships as the tournament's #2 seed. The quarterfinal round will begin on Sunday, October 20th as BC will host the #7 seeded Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The semifinal and championship rounds will taking place at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing. The semifinal will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd, while the final will take place on Saturday, October 26th.
