Box Score Throggs Neck, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team posted its eighth shutout of the season on Wednesday evening, as the Bulldogs registered a 2-0 win against the Privateers of Maritime College.
With the win, BC improves to 9-5 overall on the season; while Maritime falls to 4-8-2 overall on the year.
The first half featured a defensive stalemate, as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots, as the game headed into the intermission break scoreless.
Brooklyn came out the halftime break determined to get on the board, as senior
Dmitry Prokofyev, the reigning City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week and Easter College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, took a cross from freshman
Marco Thimm-Kaiser to score the first goal of the game in the 48th minute of play.
The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs, until the 78th minute, when Prokofyev passed to an open sophomore
Oleg Tykhonravov, who beat the keeper one-on-one on a breakaway, which give Brooklyn an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead.
Brooklyn controlled the majority of the second half, as the Bulldogs outshot the Privateers 10-1 in the period.
Junior
Kamil Ostrowski played all 90 minutes in net, recording four saves to preserve his sixth shutout of the season. Maritime had two keepers split time in goal, as Phil Marks played the first 45 minutes, tallying two saves, while Karl Weber finished the final 45 minutes, allowing both goals, to go along with four saves.
Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, October 19th, as the Bulldogs will take on the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC matchup. The game is slated for a 2:00 pm start time, as BC will honor their senior class as part of Senior Day celebrations.
