Women’s Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker to New Rochelle, 3-2

Box Score New Rochelle, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team was on the wrong end of a five-set thriller on Thursday evening in New Rochelle, NY, as the Bulldogs fell to the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle, 3-2 (25-16, 16-25, 13-25, 25-20, 15-12).

The Bulldogs drop to 10-12 overall on the season with the loss and the Blue Angels improve to 17-11 overall on the year with the win. The loss also snaps BC's three-match winning streak.

After dropping the opening set 25-16, Brooklyn bounced back to the take the next two sets 25-16 and 25-13, to go ahead 2-1. However, New Rochelle would defend its home court by earning a 25-20 win in the fourth set and a 15-12 win the fifth and final set to take the match.

Leading the way for BC was freshman Julia Bogdan, who set a new career high in kills with 17, a match-high. Bogdan also tied for the match-high in digs, with 15, to finish the night with a double-double. Senior Lisenia Rodriguez also chipped in with 15 digs.

Along with Bogdan, senior Jillian Escobar and freshman Crystal Wu also recorded double-doubles, as Escobar tallied 12 kills and 14 digs, while Wu dished out a match-best 31 assists, to go along with 10 digs. Escobar also added four aces and solo block to her stat line.

Other key contributors for the Bulldogs were freshman Francesca LoCascio (eight kills, five digs, one ace, two block assists) and sophomore Yelizaveta Malysheva (seven kills, three assists, four digs). Freshman Vera Zhuk registered seven assists playing in just one set.

Brooklyn dropped the five-set, see-saw battle despite racking up 51 kills on the night. Errors plagued the Bulldogs all night, as BC totaled 23 attack errors and 16 service errors.

Serving played a key role in the New Rochelle victory, as the Blue Angels totaled an impressive 20 aces in the match. Indigo Flowers led the way with eight aces, while Diana Desir added six aces.

Meghan King led the home team with 10 kills, to go with nine digs, while Marissa Armstrong chipped in with nine kills. Kylie Thesz contributed with eight kills. Flowers paced the offense with 25 assists, while also adding 13 digs for the double-double. Tiany Perez Diaz led the defense with 14 digs.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, October 19th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Wayne, NJ to participate in a tri-match hosted by William Paterson University. BC will take on William Patterson at 11:00 am and then Mount Saint Mary College (NY) at 1:00 pm. Live stats for both matches will be available via http://www.sidearmstats.com/wpunj/wvball/
