Throggs Neck, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams opened their respective 2013-2014 seasons on the road on Thursday evening against Maritime College.

The BC Men fell by a score of 157-55, while the BC Women fell by a score of 126-80.

On the Men's side, junior Ka Ho Yeung took home two third place finishes coming in the distance events, as he finished the 1,000-Yard Freestyle in 13:51.91 and the 500-Yard Freestyle in 6:38.63.

Sophomore Terry Tsui and senior Brian Clarke took home first and second place, respectively, in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, as Tsui finished with a time of 1:17.42 and Clarke finished in 1:21.71.

Making his collegiate debut, freshman Maksym Soloninko took home a pair of fourth place finishes, in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:09.86) and the 200-Yard Freestyle (2:15.80). Junior Seth Weiss also had two fourth place finishes in the 50-Yard Freestyle (26.79) and the 100-Yard Freestyle (59.31).

The quartet of sophomores Fong Zeng, Maged Mahmoud and Elliott Weinberg and Soloninko posted a first place finish in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:47.33.

On the Women's side, juniors Enlisa Ng Ou and Jenny Lee each took home a first place finish. Ng Ou was the first to touch the wall in the 100-Yard Breaststroke at 1:21.01, while Lee beat the field in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:24.81. Lee also earned a second place finish in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:11.27.

Seniors Jacqueline Szpunt, Nicole O'Brien and Valentina Monroy and junior Anju Gonzalez each took home a second place finish as well. Szpunt came in second in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle (16:22.35), O'Brien took second in the 200-Yard Freestyle (2:32.88), Monroy placed second in the 200-Yard IM (2:36.35) and Gonzalez came in second in the 50-Yard Freestyle (29.13).

Monroy and Gonzalez also earned third place finishes, as Monroy took third in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:14.08) and Gonzalez took third in the 100-Yard Freestyle (1:05.79). Senior Megan Pendergast took home a third place finish in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:27.88.

The foursome of Pendergast, sophomore Bennett Collier, senior Stephanie Caravello and Monroy took second place in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:01.41.

Brooklyn will return to the pool on Tuesday, October 29th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Old Westbury, NY to take on the College at Old Westbury and the College of Staten Island in a tri-meet. The meet is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time.
