Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- In a non-conference matchup, the Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team dropped a nail-biter on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs fell to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 3-2, in double overtime at BC Field.
With the loss, Brooklyn falls to 12-2 overall on the season, while CSI improves to 15-1-2 overall on the year.
BC controlled the opening period as the Bulldogs set the offensive tempo outshooting the Dolphins 12-4. Brooklyn would eventually break through when
Shani Abrahams sent a cross into the box that found an open
Jordan Kerwin, who was able to put the ball into the back of the net to put the home team up 1-0 in the 35th minute of action.
The game would remain 1-0 in favor of Brooklyn as the teams headed into the halftime break.
The second half saw the Dolphins increase their offensive tempo, holding a slight 10-7 shot advantage in the period. CSI would eventually register the equalizer in the 55th minute, when Kathryn Dowling took the ball off of a defender and was able to shoot the ball past the keeper, who was unable to control the shot.
BC would regain the lead in the 69th minute, when
Shani Nakhid-Schuster sent a pass down the field to
Bergelie Louis who was able to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one on a breakaway.
The lead would not last long however; as the Dolphins would tie the game for a second time at 2-2 just two minutes later in the 71st minute, when Melissa Gelardi sent the ball into the box off of a corner kick, allowing Samantha Wysokowski to score CSI's second equalizer of the day.
Neither team would be able to record the game-winner in regulation, as the game headed into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the Dolphins would come away with the thrilling double OT win, when Demi-Jean Martorano scored the game-winner in the 106th minute of action, with Amanda Percaccio and Wysokowski assisting on the play.
For the game, BC held the shooting advantage, 21-15, as well as the corner kick advantage, 7-1.
CSI's Victoria Donegan picked up the win in net, registering nine saves in 105:58 minutes of play. Her counterpart,
Kimberly Chacko also played all 105:58 minutes, while making three saves.
Brooklyn will be back in action on Monday, October 28th, when the Bulldogs will welcome York College in a non-conference match up. The game is scheduled for a 4:30 pm start time. BC will be honoring its departing seniors prior to the start of the game as part of Senior Day celebrations.
