Women’s Soccer Tops York on Senior Day

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- Senior Shani Abrahams recorded her second career hat trick in her final regular season home game on Monday afternoon to lead the Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team to a 4-0 shutout victory against the Cardinals of York College in a non-conference match at BC Field.

With the win, BC improves to 13-2 overall on the year, while York concludes its 2013 season with a 3-13 overall mark.

The shutout was also the Bulldogs' 11th of the season.

Prior to the start of the game, Abrahams and her classmates Angelica Romero, Meagan Cranston and Eka Beriashvili were all honored for their hard work and dedication to the BC Women's Soccer program.

Abrahams accounted for all four goals, which were scored in the first half, to cap off a strong senior day performance.

Abrahams got the Bulldogs on the board in the 18th minute, when she sent a shot into the top left corner of the goal that rattled in to put BC ahead, 1-0.

She would strike again in the 24th minute when Sophia Eugene sent a pass through the Cardinals defense that found Abrahams who was able to beat the keeper, giving Brooklyn a 2-0 edge.

Abrahams would tally her third goal of the game in a similar fashion in the 30th minute, when Stefany Ibarra sent a pass down the field, allowing Abrahams to notch the hat trick.

Abrahams capped off her scoring day in the 39th minute, when she picked up the loose ball off of a defender, sending a shot into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the afternoon. Her four scores set a new career-high for goals scored in a game.

Sophomore Michelle Cranston got the start in net for BC, playing 73:33 minutes, while Karolina Gorna finished off the final 16:27, while recording two saves to preserve the shutout win. Cranston and Gorna benefited from a stout defense that allowed York to take just six shots in the game.

Sarah Hilaire played all 90 minutes in goal for York, while totaling 11 saves and surrendering all four goals.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Wednesday, October 30th, as the Bulldogs will conclude their regular season in Old Westbury, NY against the Panthers of the College at Old Westbury.
