Men’s and Women’s Swimming Compete at Old Westbury Tri-Meet

Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's and Women's Swimming teams competed in a tri-meet on Tuesday evening at the SUNY College of Old Westbury along with the College of Staten Island.

On the Women's side, the Bulldogs defeated host Old Westbury, 51-44, while being edged out by CSI, 48-47.

On the Men's side, Brooklyn fell to both Old Westbury (68-27) and CSI (78-17).

Highlighting the meet for the Bulldogs for the Women was the BC foursome of Jenny Lee, Danielle Mollo-Siano, Angela Redekop and Megan Pendergast that took first place in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:58.36.

Lee and Mollo-Siano also took an individual first place finish, as Lee was the first to touch the wall in the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:04.81 and Mollo-Siano placed first in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 30.21. Patricia Velloza took second place in the 50-Free with a time of 30.59.

Other swimmers taking second place honors were Nicole O'Brien (1,000-Yard Freestyle; 14:02.50), Pendergast (200-Yard Freestyle; 2:24.94), Lee (200-Yard IM; 2:43.01) Valentina Monroy (100-Yard Butterfly; 1:12.72) and Enlisa Ng Ou (100-Yard Breast; 1:19.82).

Stephanie Caravello took third place in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:19.14, while Monroy took third place in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:26.38.

For the Men, Maksym Soloninko took second place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.29, while Kevin Barros took home third place in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 14:10.91.

The Brooklyn quartet of Mark Bandoylo, Richard Spence, Iskandarbek Yunusov and Brian Clarke took third place in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:56.70.

Other notable performers for the Bulldogs were Elliott Weinberg (200-Yard Freestyle), Blake Bakal (50-Yard Freestyle), and both Ka Ho Yeung and Clarke in the 500-Yard Freestyle.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, November 2nd, as the Bulldogs will travel to Bronxville, NY to participate in the Sarah Lawrence College Sprint Carnival starting at 1:30 pm.
