Box Score Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Soccer team concluded its 2013 regular season with a tough luck, 2-1, double overtime loss on Wednesday afternoon on the road in Old Westbury, NY against the Panthers of SUNY College at Old Westbury.
With the loss, BC drops to 13-3 overall on the season, while Old Westbury improves to 11-7 overall on the year.
For Brooklyn, this was their second double overtime loss of the season, as BC fell to the College of Staten Island 3-2 on October 26th.
The Bulldogs got on the board early as sophomore
Sayla Flores beat the keeper to put the visitors up 1-0 in the third minute of play.
The Panthers would tie the game at 1-1 later on in the period in the 20th minute when Sara Bey sent a pass to Stephanie Maybie, who found the back of the net for the equalizer.
The first half was even throughout, as both teams each had five shots and five corner kicks.
The Panthers would put on the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Bulldogs 12-5 in the period; however, BC keeper
Kimberly Chacko was up to the task, as she registered four saves in the period to keep the game knotted at 1.
Old Westbury had its best chance for a go ahead goal in the 70th minute when JoAnna Kettell's shot hit off of the cross bar.
With neither team able to finish the game in regulation, the match would head into overtime.
In the end, Jordan Schildt recorded the game winning goal in the 104th minute of play during the second overtime with Kettell assisting on the play.
For the game, Old Westbury outshot Brooklyn 20-12 and held a slim advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.
Chacko recorded eight saves in net for BC; while her counterpart, Caitlin Thomas finished the day with four saves.
With its regular season now complete, the Brooklyn will now turn its attention to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Applebee's Women's Soccer Championships, which begin on Wednesday, November 5th with the semifinals round.
The #2 seeded Bulldogs will take on the #3 seeded City College of New York (CCNY) Beavers in the second semifinal game at 6:30. #1 College of Staten Island Dolphins will take on #4 John Jay College of Criminal Justice Bloodhounds in the first semifinal game at 4:00 pm.
The winners of each semifinal will play in the championship final on Saturday, November 9th at 2:00 pm.
Both the semifinals and final games will be held at Brooklyn College as BC Field will serve host of the 2013 CUNYAC Soccer Championships.
