Box Score New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in straight sets on Tuesday night at the Doghouse, 3-0 (25-16,25-18,27-25) in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action.
With the win, BC concludes the 2013 regular season with a 12-15 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in the CUNYAC. John Jay falls to 5-19 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Leading 2-0, the third set featured a seesaw battle, as both teams combined for 12 ties and eight lead changes. In the end, the Bulldogs would squeak out a 27-25 win to close out the match in straight sets.
The Bulldogs were led by senior
Jillian Escobar, who tallied 10 kills and seven digs. Freshman
Julia Bogdan added six kills, nine aces and seven digs, while classmate
Anna Li finished with five kills, four digs and two block assists. Senior
Manon Bailly chipped in with five kills and three block assists.
Pacing the BC offense were freshmen
Crystal Wu and
Vera Zhuk. Wu dished out 19 assists, to go along with two aces and five digs, while Zhuk contributed with 10 assists and four digs.
Lisenia Rodriguez finished with eight digs.
For John Jay, Martina Hot led the Bloodhounds with 10 kills and eight digs, while Katherine Bonilla handed out 19 assists, to go along with seven digs. Latanya Buckham recorded a match-high 16 digs.
With the regular season now over for Brooklyn, the Bulldogs will turn their attention to the CUNYAC Championships, as BC, the #4 seed, will host the #5 seeded City College of New York Beavers in the quarterfinals round. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center on Tuesday, November 5th.
