Women’s Volleyball Falls To Canton and Host Kean on Day Two of Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Union, NJ --- On the second day of the Kean University Invitational on Saturday, the Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team fell to host Kean in three sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-21), in their first match at Harwood Arena in Union, NJ. In their next match, the Bulldogs dropped another three set decision to SUNY Canton, 25-13, 25-10, 25-21.

With the pair of losses, BC drops to 7-11 overall on the year; while Kean improves to 16-6 and Canton moves to 18-3 this season.

In the Kean match, freshman Julia Bogdan led the Bulldogs with a team-best nine kills, to go with five digs and a solo block; while senior Jillian Escobar chipped in with four kills hitting .364. Freshman Francesca LoCascio also added four kills in the match. Pacing the Brooklyn offense were a pair of freshmen in Vera Zhuk and Crystal Wu, as Zhuk dished out 10 assists, while Wu contributed with eight assists. Senior Lisenia Rodriguez finished the match with 10 digs and classmate Manon Bailly added three service aces.

For the Cougars, Jen Espinal recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Alana Aranjo registered 28 assists and eight digs. Alix Denison and Kaitlyn Hansen each added eight kills, as Kean totaled 39 kills on a .375 hitting percentage. Lauren Fitzgerald chipped in with six kills, three aces and three block assists.

Against the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton, Bogdan led the way with six kills, while Escobar and LoCascio added four a piece. Canton was led by Kelsey Cornish's eight kills.

Brooklyn will be home once again on Wednesday evening when they host Purchase College at 7 pm.
